Hi, we’re Jenny and Greger Hillman.
We keep a diary.
We’re a married couple who built a family business that supports the life we want: plenty of time together with our kids, room to travel, and an everyday life we enjoy here in Sweden. We’re big on journaling ourselves, and YearDiary is the app we both use daily to capture the small moments and the big life events, and to reflect and gather our thoughts and memories.

Why we built it
Between us we’ve bought at least ten paperback diaries. We started every one of them, and we stopped every one of them too. Lost them, forgot them, or decided that missing a day meant we’d failed.
The problem was never the habit. It was the format. A journal that lives in your pocket removes the barrier: no hunting for the book, no guilt about the gap, just a few lines a day that slowly grow into something you actually want to reread.

Capturing the moments
With YearDiary it’s easy to capture everyday moments and thoughts, as well as trips, events and life-changing milestones, in a few taps on the screen. The app is private and stays on your device and in your own iCloud. We never see your data. It’s all yours, as it should be.
YearDiary works on iPhone, iPad and Mac: you write a little each day, and over time you’ll see what you wrote on the same date one, two, three or ten years ago. We built it to be your forever diary, a place to keep your memories.

On the road and at home
Some of our favourite entries were written while travelling. A harbour we walked down at dusk, a mountain lake before anyone else was awake, a cold morning halfway up a ski slope. Writing a few lines the same evening ties the place to the day itself, not to a folder of photos we’ll never open again.
Most of what we write down, though, isn’t dramatic at all. A slow Sunday at home, something one of us said over dinner, the week everything went wrong at once. Read back a year later, those ordinary entries are the ones that land hardest, and they’re exactly the ones you’d never have remembered on your own.
Big days and small days both end up in it, and that’s the whole idea behind YearDiary: write the small thing today, and let your past self hand it back to you on the same date next year.
